Description
Quantitative determination of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in immune cells (PBMCs)
This blood test measures the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein inside immune cells.
Spike proteins are usually found in tissues with many ACE-2 receptors and are not easily detected in the bloodstream. Immune cells, such as macrophages, can take up the spike protein, allowing it to be measured in a small fraction of blood immune cells.
Detection of spike protein in immune cells indicates that the protein has been produced and processed in the body.
A negative result does not completely rule out the presence of spike protein. If persistent spike protein is still suspected, testing of plasma, serum, or exosomes may be recommended.
While the test detects the presence of spike protein, it cannot identify the specific source, such as a viral variant or vaccination.
It is recommended that this test is interpreted alongside SSP3
