Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) is a routine blood test that measures the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood after fasting.

Glucose is the body’s primary source of energy, and blood glucose levels are regulated by insulin and other hormones. Measuring fasting glucose provides an indication of how effectively the body is maintaining blood glucose levels and is commonly used as part of screening for impaired glucose regulation and diabetes.

Fasting required: A fasting sample is required. Please follow the specific fasting instructions provided with your test kit (see ‘Additional Information’).

Testing for Hba1c is also available

Fasting Instructions

Fasting Instructions:
– Fast for 8–12 hours before your blood sample is collected.
– During the fasting period, drink only plain water. Avoid food, tea, coffee, juice, soft drinks and other beverages.
– Avoid alcohol during the fasting period.
– Do not smoke or vape during the fast.
– Avoid strenuous exercise before your blood sample is taken.
– If you take regular medication or supplements in the morning, follow your clinician's instructions about whether these should be taken before the test.
– Ideally, arrange your blood collection in the morning, after your overnight fast.
– You may resume your normal diet and activities after the sample has been collected.
